While we wait for the rain to stop this week so our slab pour can finally occur, I have kept myself busy pondering furniture choices for our new home.
We’re going for a classic-contemporary look, and while some of our current furniture will match and fit into the house, who can resist a few new key pieces to really stamp a new style in a new home.
After failing miserably to sell our 12-year old mission-brown couches for even a paltry $150 on Ebay – hey the colour was all the rage in 2004 (and sooo not contemporary, or classic), we made the snap decision to keep them and get them re-upholstered instead.
To be honest, I put a lot of effort into buying and designing these twin couches when we had them made – they are very good quality and have held up better than any other sofa over the years – the cushions are soft yet still firm, the seats are the perfect height and depth, the arms are wide and flat, they really are just sooo comfortable (they must be, my son’s favourite thing at the moment is to sneak into the lounge in the middle of the night so he can sleep on the couch!). And we have a matching ottomon! Knowing that re-upholstering them in a nice fabric is probably going to cost the same or more than buying new couches put us off at first… but I think that it will be worth it in the end.
After spending a couple of evenings trawling through the Warwick fabrics website (OMG, I could do that all day), I realised you could order swatches of fabric (Double OMG!!), and proceeded to order a heap. Here are photos of the couch as it currently looks, and some of the fabric swatches that I have ordered so far. My plan is to go into the Warwick showroom in Collingwood eventually (joy! oh joy!) to finesse my choices (I’m thinking we need to inject some hints of mustard or yellow) and look at some fabrics for window coverings at the same time. But here are the favourites at the moment:
Main couch: Warwick Husk in Amalfi
Ottoman: Warwick Fitzroy Denim (sides) and Chambray Lake (top)
Cushions: Fitzroy Denim, Chambray Lake, Zelda Denim and something with yellow. I also liked Brackley Lagoon but couldn’t get a sample, will make sure to check it out when I go into the showroom.
